Daily spreadsheet skill exercises-

Skill 32- calculates averages,
Skill 08- removes duplicates 
(on data tab and then sort),
Skill 14- merge cells


Open your hurricane file.
Instead of typing formulas we are going to use FUNCTIONS, which are shortcuts that are quicker than typing formulas in by hand.
We are going to practice inserting the following FUNCTIONS or shortcuts:
Sum- adds all of the numbers in a range
Max- finds the largest number in a range
Min- finds the lowest number in a range
Average- calculates the average of a range of numbers
Count- counts the numbers of entries in a range

Exit Activity- SmartBoard formative testing of vocabulary
How much do you remember about Spreadsheets?
By yourself or with a partner take turns and play.
Today it is not a test, but it will be a test at the end of the Spreadsheet unit. 

Make sure you click on VIEW RESULTS and stay on that page until Miss W checks it.
Miss W will draw names to see which students will play it on the Smartboard.

When you get finished with the hurricane spreadsheet, you will start working on the Ribbon worksheet. You need to decide if you want to type or write your answers. We are going to go over how to save and how to do the exercise.



Spreadsheet Formulas and Functions- hurricane worksheet-
DO NOT WRITE ON WORKSHEET USE YOUR OWN PAPER

·         Students need to find the values and rewrite the formulas with them.

·         1st do number 7.  =Sum(f8:f10) = f8 + f9 + f10   = 0+075+6   =81

·         SUM means to add all of the numbers in the range (group of cells)






In Column K Students will type in formulas and see if the numbers match up

·         Save  hurricanes files to lunch number

Friday, Oct 5 Spreadsheets- Charts

Open Car lot file and open your green file
What are we learning today?
What if statements. How to create and format charts .

Guided Lesson:

Pull out your study guide questions
Write the correct answers for all of the questions 

Open your to Green file.
What If analysis
What if you change the value in B7 to 10
What if you change the value in C7 to 100
The spreadsheet automatically recalculates new totals for you.
You do not have to retype formulas.

Open your Car lot file.
Sorting
Make sure you have chosen a "Format as Table" style.
Click on the sort arrow by the price.
We are going to sort the most expensive car.
We are going to sort for the least expensive car.
Click on the sort arrow by the miles.
We are going to sort the car with the most miles.
We are going to sort the car with the least miles.

Adding data bars
Click on the price data.
On the Home tab then go to the Conditional Formatting button then choose data bars then choose a color

Chart creation and formatting
  • highlight your car lot data
  • Insert a column chart
  • click on the chart and the Chart Tools Tab will appear
  • insert the chart title "My Car Lot". It will explain the chart's purpose.
  • insert axis titles "miles" and "price"
  • right click on the legend and choose "select data"
    • highlight series 1 then click on edit and change to miles
    • highlight series 2 then click on edit and change to price
  • click on data labels and click on show
  • change chart wall
  • change chart floor
  • make sure you have gridlines they will make the plot area easier to read.
Independent exercise:
Write down study guide questions 18 and 19 and write down a, b, c or d for the answers.

On your car lot spreadsheet complete the following formatting:
1. choose a "format as table" style,
2. change the color of the 3 tabs,
3. create a "thick box" border (any color) around your favorite car,
4. fill in that cell with any color
5. and change the data format in the price column to currency.  


6. Write down study guide question 13 and write down a, b, c or d for the answer.
