What are we learning today?
With the new English Common Core standards,
students are required to read non-fiction documents
in ALL of their classes and understand them.
We are going to discuss some steps
on how to make a non-fiction document easier to understand.

1. Always "preview" a document by looking at the Titles and pictures.
Let's look at the article "Importance of PowerPoint Skills" (click on link)
What is the main title?

What are the 3 subtitles?

What do you think the article is going to be about?

Ask yourself what do you ready know about the topic, PowerPoint?
Sign in to Edmodo and respond to "Name 5 things you know about PowerPoint."

2. You need to get use to reading a non-fiction text at least 2 times!
The first time is a quick read to get a "big" picture about what the article is about.
The second time is a slower read to understand what the article is about.

Get into groups of 2 or 3 students.
Each group will be assigned a paragraph to read to get the "big" picture.
As close as possible to 10 words explain what your paragraph is about on the link below.
Do NOT copy from your paragraph. It needs to be in your own words.

You need to complete the questions until it says 100%
raise your hand for the teacher to see 100% completed and
write down the score, you will not be graded.
(It can’t be saved)
There is a pink vocabulary guide between every desk!

2. Many of you did not get finished watching and voting on the PowerPoint Projects, that you liked, or completing your review worksheet.
Pull up Edmodo
For each category pick the best PowerPoint
AND answer
the Voting questions on the worksheet:

Why do you like the project you voted for?
What is the design evidence? (liked animation, font, colors, easy to understand, etc.)

What one thing will you change on your PowerPoint and why?
