Guided Lesson:
@ Students will get instructions for assignments..
Independent Exercise
@ Students finish persuasive powerpoint project.
We are going to discuss some steps
on how to make a non-fiction document easier to understand. 1. Always "preview" a document by looking at the Titles and pictures. Let's look at the article "Importance of PowerPoint Skills" (click on link) What is the main title? What are the 3 subtitles? What do you think the article is going to be about? 1. Ask yourself what do you ready know about the topic, PowerPoint? 2. You need to get use to reading a non-fiction text at least 2 times! The first time is a quick read to get a "big" picture about what the article is about. The second time is a slower read to understand what the article is about.
3. Look up any words you
do not know.
For example question number
one says to look at When you go to http://www.google.com type the word DEFINITION and the word you want to look up. the word “synonymous” on Google and write the definition. You would type “definition synonymous”. Some words have more than one definition so you need to check that it makes sense in the article’s sentence. Get into groups of 2 or 3 students. Each group will be assigned a paragraph to read to get the "big" picture. As close as possible to 10 words explain what your paragraph is about on the link below. Do NOT copy from your paragraph. It needs to be in your own words. | |
