Oct 3 Business and Finance

Learning Goal: Finish 2.02 Understanding the nature of Management and Leadership- Human Resources

BellWork:

1. Beneath Question 28 in the bottom margin of your notes paper- Write 3 questions you would ask someone if you were hiring a person for one of the businesses you listed in the last study guide. For example "How many years of experience do you have?" Do NOT use this question. Think of 3 questions on your own.

2. Read pages 156 to 158 in your textbook about "What is a Leader?".

3. If you didn't finish the leadership characteristics vocabulary sheet work on it.

4. Below Question 22-On the back of your Manager and Leadership sheet in the rectangle box answer the following question "Explain how you could use 2 Leadership traits to be a leader at school?"

5. Answer question 1 to 3 on page 162 in the question box on your study notes. You may skip question 4!

6. Staple your two papers together.

Interims will be collected. If returned on 10-3 it will be 84, if returned on 10-4 it will be a 80. If the interims are returned after that date it will be a 76.

Guided Instruction: We will be discussing the Human Resources function in businesses.

Independent Exercise: Read pages 221 to 222 about the HR Interview process. You may change your 3 questions if you like. Students will conduct mock interviews. They will determine whether their interview questions were good ways to determine an employee's experience or character. Verbal answers during discussion period- you do not need to write.

Read pages 180 and 181 about HR Planning, Staffing, and Job Analysis. Complete the job analysis of a student on the bottom of your leadership vocabulary page.

Read pages 185 to 186 about Performance Management. Evaluate your performance as a student based on your job analysis.

1. Above Question 23 in the top margin of your notes paper- answer the question in the box "Just like you will be interviewed for a job, you will be interviewed to get into a college. A typical college interview question is “Who in your life has influenced you the most and why?” Use the leadership traits we covered and the information from the text to answer the question.

BellWork: Study for CFA quiz- it will count as a daily assignment instead of a test grade.

EVERYONE needs to pull up their COMPANY Projects The projects were "not" included on the interim because Miss W. wanted to check to see if the black and white printer may not have printed out different color fonts. Many students had several "blank" slides in their presentation and Miss W. wants to make sure it is not a printing issue before assessing grades. (It was a printing issue- the black and white printer will not print light pink, aqua, yellow or lime green.)

Independent Exercise:

Bell Ringer: Students will choose one of two September prompts and write one paragraph (5 to 7 sentences)

Opinion prompt: Using your Business Cycle worksheet do you believe we are in a Big Recession or a Small Depression? Why? Use the facts from your worksheet to support your opinion.

Current Events prompt: Using your Business Cycle worksheet explain why after 9-11-2001 President Bush encouraged Americans to go out and live their lives and to spend money. "When [the terrorists] struck, they wanted to create an atmosphere of fear," Bush said at a Sept. 27, 2001, speech at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. "And one of the great goals of this nation's war is to restore public confidence in the airline industry.

"It's to tell the traveling public: Get on board. Do your business around the country. Fly and enjoy America's great destination spots. Get down to Disney World in Florida. Take your families and enjoy life, the way we want it to be enjoyed." Think about the different business cycle activities and decide which ones he was trying to encourage.

Independent Lesson: Finding the Market Equilibrium price. GDP visual project which shows the parts of GDP such as consumer spending, government spending, business spending and exports-imports. Students, who do not complete in class, will have it as homework or it will be finished during Wednesday's Tiger Time.
