Thursday, April 24th- 8th Grade- Text-Based Reading about Databases

Bellringer:
1. On page 419 type the bottom 1st paragraph
that begins "So far, you've entered data into..."

2. Complete any missing work on the board.

What are we learning?
Understand the basics of databases.
How is database information used, organized, and managed in business?


Guided Lesson:

Test Next Thursday!@ Students will review for text-based reading assignment.
Synonym- words with same meaning, an example is cold and freezing.

Infer- educated guess from the clues, an example is there were no other students in the classroom so the student inferred they were in the media center or lab.  


Opinion- is NOT a fact, for example, in the student's opinion Halo is the best video game.
A fact would be "Halo is a first person shooter game for Microsoft's Xbox and Xbox 360."

Category - is a group, for example, the student liked reading books in the fantasy category.

Independent Exercise:
@ Go to achieve 3000. Go to your mailbox.

Students will read carefully.
The first attempt at the activity questions will be a daily grade.

DIFFERENT THOUGHT QUESTION
: How does the ISIS database help save animals? Write 2 to 3 sentences.

Reward on Friday: For all students, who get 70 or better!
 
@ Finish the database vocabulary crossword puzzle.    
Exit Activity#1:

*Look on your puzzle word definitions or Database powerpoints,
  and the answer the following questions:

1. When the animal database "offers you choices" to click on such as bats, bears, butterflies what type of data type is it? (Not text) 
 
2. When you click and find the definition of the animal, what data type is the definition?
   (Not text)
