Tuesday, April 22nd, 8th Grade- Lookup Wizards and Field Properties

Bellringer: 1. On page 416 type the left paragraph that begins "A row or record is a..."
What are we learning?
Understand the basics of databases.
How is database information used, organized, and managed in business?


Guided Lesson:@ Students will open the Data Type and Field Properties PowerPoint
@ Miss W will review different data types with students.
@ Students will finish the BB Inns database.
@ It is very important to enter the data correctly or you will get the problems wrong!
@ Students are use to seeing a database in DATASHEET View.
     Datasheet View displays data in a row-and-column format.

@ Students will look at the DESIGN View to see if they used the correct database types.
     Design View lets you tell Access exactly how you want the object to look.

@ If time: Students will learn about the LOOK UP Wizard database type.

     A WIZARD asks you questions and formats the form according to your preference.

     Do NOT name the field first wait until you are asked for it.  
        

     Students will work through an example with the teacher
     using a Lookup Wizard with the   
     BBinns file to create a Discount field.

     The Discount field should be the Lookup & Relationship data type.
     When you get to number of columns type in the following choices:
     Senior  
     Military
     AAA
     Other  

Independent Exercise:
@ Students will create look up wizards for bed size and window view.  

@ Is it a data type or a field property?
@ Review Steps in Creating a Database

@ Open the Field Property- Input Mask PowerPoint in the Database folder.

@ Open your BB database.

@ Miss W will walk you through setting up a phone number input mask.

@ Miss W will show you a 2nd way to get to the Design View (right click on table name.)

Independent Exercise:
@ Students will create a zip code input mask.
