May 11 Career Management

Learning Goals:
Continue Unit 6.02 - Produce a career portfolio
-Create a resume, find a position, write a cover letter

TIGER TIME: The following items must be completed to avoid tiger time:
*Unit 5 packet Due Friday
*Motivational poster Due Friday
*Personal Career Plan

*Resume
*Located and copied a career to a Word document

*Have a rough draft of your cover letter

Interims need to be signed and returned for a grade.
Bring it back today- - 85 5 points off each day

Other Talent/Skills

Academic (stress classes that work toward your career goal)
-Studied diligently and have a 3.5 GPA
-Excelled in Honors Biology class. Earned an "A" and developed an understanding of anatomy.
-Assembled a carburetor in Auto Class 1.
-Repaired an engine.
-Earned Auto Certification in Brakes.

Softball Team
-Demonstrated to team members the correct way to hold a bat.
-Mentored newer players on game strategies
-Won 2nd place for the 2011-2012 season through team work and dedication to practice.

2. Find a job: Search on these 2 sites Students will go to http://www.indeed.com/ or http://www.simplyhired.com/and find a position that is close to the one they want.
Copy and Paste the hiring information to a Word document called "job" and save to your Career Portfolio folder."

3. Review cover letters at this site and start your cover letter We are going to watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0suKZ-oU8shttp://jobsearch.about.com/od/samplestudentletters/a/studentcoverletters.htm
Make sure you use action verbs, complete sentences, correct spelling and
grammar.

-You should have an introduction paragraph.
-Two additional paragraphs explaining how your skills match job requirements
-A conclusion paragraph requesting a job interview.
-Save to your Career Portfolio folder as "cover letter"
