Tuesday, Oct 29- 8th Grade- Internet Safety- Part 1 Being Safe

Bellringer:
1. On page 419 type the LAST 3 sentences in the 1st paragraph.
2. Candy Challenge! Open up your Excel Spreadsheet from Monday.
Finish creating a picture with words of how you can be safe on the Internet.

3. Log in to Edmodo. 

What are we learning today?
We are learning how to protect ourselves from cyberbullies and internet predators.

"... all students must be trained about appropriate online behavior. Such training must cover topics such as cyberbullying and interacting with others on social networking websites and in chat rooms."

Guided Practice:

@Students will review each other's Internet Safety pictures as the K part of KWL.
@Your grade will be a participation grade.
@ In groups of 2 to 3 answer the following questions on Edmodo. 

  1. What would you do if someone sent you a mean text?
  2. What would you do if someone online said they were going to hurt you?
  3. What would you do if someone you do not know asks to be your friend on Facebook or MySpace?
  4. What would you do if someone wanted to borrow your password?
  5. What things should you not share on Facebook or MySpace?
  6. What would you do if someone keeps bothering you online?
  7. Would you ever want to post something online that you wouldn’t want your family to see, or your teachers to see, or the college you want to go to?
@Students will watch and discuss the Cyberbully videos.
Exit Activity: At the end of this unit students will be able to say
  • I will tell my parents, a teacher, or a trusted adult if someone tries to cyberbully me.
  • I will never respond to messages that are rude or offensive and I will show the message to my parents, a teacher or a trusted adult.
  • I understand that my online actions may have offline consequences.
