Database-  Advance filtering and Importing Text

Standards:
DB-3 Demonstrate the management of a database

Students will import text into a database.
Literacy/Vocabulary Strategies (Word Wall)
Importing means bringing an item in from an outside source.
This map shows countries that import oil.

Bell-Ringer/Connecting Strategy

We are learning the numeric keypad.

Your thumb goes on the 0 at the bottom
The right index finger will control the 1 key.
The right middle finger will control the 2 key.
The right ring finger will control the 3 and . keys.

The daily bellringers will now be practicing the number pad

 Choose exercise 1 and then click on the word "start."
Record your typing speed and accuracy in your typing file.
 

 

Guided Lesson:
@ Miss W will go over the project grading rubric with students.
@ Students will have 10 minutes to make any corrections to project.


@ Students will save to the Database folder then DB Relationship Project folder.
Rubric:
10 points Your Name
10 points definition of one-to-one database used correctly.
10 points definition of one-to-many database used correctly.
10 points definition of primary key used correctly.
10 points definition of foreign key used correctly.
10 points definition of join lines used correctly.
10 points spelling and grammar.
10 points for citation (may use one citation if you get all images from imdb)
10 points for using text boxes
10 points for creativity (having pictures of movie, stars, director and design elements- white space, balance, alignment, repetition, contrast and proximity/unity)

@ Open the Importing Text Files PowerPoint
@ Students will import text data into a database using an existing file.
@ Miss W will show students how to import data to a database by saving as a plain text file. Name your Database Class.
@ Remember to save as a plain text file, NO spaces between the commas.
@ We will be using the External Data Tab (Ribbon).
@ In the Import and Link group, we will be clicking on the Text File button.
@ Students will need to Rename the fields, either by going to Design view or using the menu option.
@ Open and Save the School Information file to your lunch number.

Independent Exercise:
@ Students will import text data into a database using their own data.
@ Name your database and table SCHOOLS
@ Name, Ownership, Type, Enrollment, InState, OutofState
    are your field names.
@ Every field is text except InState,  and OutofState they are currency.
@ If you do it correctly you will not need to type dollar signs.
@  If you make a mistake on the field names or type, go to the Design view to correct it.
