Literacy/Vocabulary Strategies (Word Wall)
Descending Order- the people on the right are going down. They are descending.
Ascending Order- the people on the left are going up. They are ascending.
File:Ascending - descending
Bell-Ringer/Connecting Strategy
On page 25, type lines 13 and 14.
Remember to use your thumb for the space bar.
We are using our left INDEX finger for the G key.
Make sure you use the shift keys to capitalize the words!

Guided Lesson:
On your car lot spreadsheet complete the following formatting:
Open car lot file and add the following items to your file:
1. choose a "format as table" style,
Skill 7- format table any color, (Home tab- format as table arrow)

2. change the color of the 3 tabs,
Skill 23- change color of tabs,
       (Right click on tab, click on change color, choose color)

3. create a "thick box" border (any color) around your favorite car,

Skill 31 formatting cells- (highlight car, choose border button)
4. fill in that cell with any color (choose paint bucket)
5. and change the data format in the price column to currency.

Skill 31 formatting cells- change price column to currency             
       (highlight prices, then click on number format arrow)
6. create data bars of any color in your price field

Skill 13- data bars on price column any color,     
   (Home tab- Conditional Formatting button)

7. hide the row of the car you like the least
Right click on number of car you do not like and choose hide.

Sorting
Make sure you have chosen a "Format as Table" style.
Click on the sort arrow by the price.
We are going to sort the most expensive car.
We are going to sort for the least expensive car.
Click on the sort arrow by the miles.
We are going to sort the car with the most miles.
We are going to sort the car with the least miles.

Chart creation and formatting
  • hide the "miles" column
  • highlight your car lot data- model and price
  • Insert a column chart
  • click on the chart and the Chart Tools Tab will appear
  • We are going to look at the Design Tab.
  • Choose a chart style color.
  • We are going to  look at the Layout tab.
  • insert the chart title "My Car Lot". It will explain the chart's purpose.
  • insert horizontal axis title "model"
  • insert vertical axis title "price"
  • click on data labels and click on show
  • click on data table and click on show
  • change chart wall, go to more options and pick a fill color
  • change chart floor, go to more options and pick a different color
  • make sure you have gridlines they will make the plot area easier to read.
Open the Spreadsheet Vocabulary file
Slides 31 through 34 (formatting and formulas)


Homework:
Students need to decide for which ACADEMIC topic
(Typing Posture/Technique, Language Arts, Science,
Social Studies, or Math) they will create a
PowerPoint presentation soon. We will be using the
PowerPoint you create to learn different old and new
features of PowerPoint 2010.
